About Coach Marc Minardo

Founder & Head Coach, Montauk Hoops Club

Coach Marc Minardo is the founder of Montauk Hoops Club and has been involved in youth basketball for more than 35 years as both a player and coach.

He played basketball through high school and went on to spend decades coaching youth teams across different levels, including NYC CYO programs. His coaching experience includes working with both 3rd grade boys teams and 8th grade girls teams, giving him a broad understanding of player development across early fundamentals and early competitive play.

Montauk Hoops Club was built out of that experience with a focus on teaching the game the right way, building confidence, and helping young players enjoy the process of improvement.

Coaching Philosophy

Coach Marc’s approach is built around a few core principles:

Fundamentals first
Strong players are built on repeatable basics — footwork, balance, passing, and shooting form.

Confidence through repetition
Players improve when they are challenged in a structured but encouraging environment.

Compete, don’t just practice
Training sessions are designed to teach players how to make decisions under pressure, not just perform drills.

Keep the game fun
Especially for younger players, enjoyment is what keeps development going long-term.

What Players Work On

At Montauk Hoops Club, training sessions typically focus on:

  • Shooting mechanics and scoring consistency
  • Ball handling and control under pressure
  • Footwork and spacing
  • Game awareness and decision-making
  • Defensive positioning and effort habits
  • Confidence in game situations
